No matter what type of insurance policy you need, vehicle, home, life, health, or even business, you will need a number of pieces of information, a majority of which are helpful across the scope of insurance. After all, no matter what is being insured, you are asking a company to accept a negotiated risk, for which you and the insurance company become solely responsible. They will want to know who you are, what you’ve done, where you work, how good your credit is, and whether you are are in good health. This information helps them to give you the best risk assessment possible, on the one hand, and gives them an idea of how risky you may be to cover, on the other.
Auto Insurance
Your driving record will be important, as well as many other things. This could be obvious health issues, such obvious items as vision and sight, or others which are generally less visible, such as potential to suffer from seizures or even severe mood swings. Even your job can affect the risk potential, as some jobs are physically and mentally demanding. And just as you probably looked at the financial ratings of the insurance company you consulted, they will want to know your financial rating as well, which means your credit rating as well as your current stability with your personal bank.
Home Insurance
You won’t your driving record for home insurance, but you will need your credit history, and as much of the history of the home as you have available. You’ll also need documents such as the date of last termite treatment, or whatever regulations may be required in your area.
Life & Health Insurance
For Life and Health, the history of your home is not important, but they will want to know everything about you that you are able to tell them. This includes a job history, because many health problems, terminal and otherwise, are related to work conditions. Your credit history will not be as important as your medical records, but a routine check is still more common than not.
Business Insurance
Aside from your personal history, and financial records, business insurance will differ majorly from one type of business to another, and may be entwined with the other requirements. For example, if you use a vehicle in your business, then the auto insurance will be a requirement, and if you work from home, your home insurance will have to be adjusted. Business insurance often covers multiple individuals, and may even be used by each one in different ways. Each person covered would then have to provide the necessary information for the coverages they were involved with.
